Pelle Decides to Head East

Norvel Pelle will head all the way across the country to play at St. John's.

The recruitment of California big man Norvel Pelle was an interesting one. The four-star power forward kept a low profile for a long time, and then decided to narrow down his list to a pair of schools before ultimately coming to a decision.

With a national TV audience looking on, Pelle chose the St. John's Red Storm over the Washington Huskies. Pelle had narrowed his list two those two schools, and anticipated making his announcement after visiting Washington over the weekend, but that never happened.

Pelle instead chose his longtime leader the St. John's Red Storm. He becomes the sixth commitment for Head Coach Steve Lavin in the 2011 class, and his commitment makes an already formidable class even more impressive.

At 6-foot-9 and 195 pounds, Pelle is one of the better shot blockers in the class. An excellent run and jump athlete, Pelle is more advanced on the defensive end than he is on offense.

Still despite being somewhat raw, Pelle garnered offers from Arizona, California, Connecticut, Kansas, Oregon, Texas, and USC before eventually settling on his final two schools.

Currently Pelle is seen as the No. 57 ranked player in the 2011 class.
