From Unknown to ABCD

John Haywood has emerged as one of the better shooting guards in his class on the west coast this spring - and went from pretty much unknown to going to the prestigious ABCD camp in July...

John Haywood, 6-4 SR SG La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat, is a relative unknown who has started to garner interest from a number of schools. John told us recently that he's hearing from UC Santa Barbara, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, USC, Oregon, Nebraska, Utah and UMass, among others.

John said that he has no leader at this point and he's wide open.

When asked what factors he'll consider in making his decision, John said, " Early playing time will be important. Also, the facilities, faculty, coaching and academics."

USC, UCLA and UMass were the three schools John mentioned as his favorites growing up.

John told us that he plans on taking his time, possibly making five visits, and there's a good chance he'll wait until spring before choosing a school.

John will play with the Los Angeles Rockfish this summer and he'll attend the ABCD camp. He said that he currently has a 3.0 GPA and he's waiting on his SAT results.
