Rankings: Rising Senior Point Guards

The new rankings are coming - providing you all a nice list of prospects to watch going into the summer's evaluation period. We start with the point guards, and guys like Armando Surratt, Richard Midgley and Tim Drisdom...

It's difficult to rate a player the best at his position mostly based on one outstanding tournament. Usually we like to see a player re-produce elite performances like the one Armando Surratt turned in at the tournament in Fresno Memorial Day weekend before we anoint him #1. But Surratt has, in the past, showed that amazing quickness and athleticism of his but, in Fresno, showed that his skills have caught up with his pure physical gifts. Plus, it's a down year for point guards on the west coast and, even if Surratt can't consistently perform like he did in Fresno for the rest of the summer, talent-wise, he probably still is the #1 point guard in the class. It's a close call for the #2 position - between Richard Midgley and Tim Drisdom. Their games are similar in many ways, but we give the edge to Midgley because he might be slightly quicker and more athletic. The guy on the list with some of the most pure talent, possibly equal to Surratt, is Jason McKinney. But McKinney is coming off a broken leg, which kept him out his entire junior year. Also, McKinney has yet to really prove he can sustain consistently good play and stay under control.
