Sweet 16 School Lands Forward

Brian Ligon wanted basketball and academics. He narrowed his choices to three schools and recently, the Florida forward committed to a Sweet 16 participant.

Academics, Hoops Blend For Butler

Lakewood senior forward Brian Ligon is serious about basketball. The future business major is also serious about academics. In his quest to combine the best of both worlds, he found Butler University.

"I just basically wanted to go to a good program with a great tradition," Ligon said. "They've had a winning program for the past few years and the tournament is kind of like the icing on the cake. A team that can get there is where I want to be."

Ligon won the state championship last year. This season he averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds but his team fell two games short of its goal.

Recently, he trimmed his list to a trio of schools. "I had a lot of small major colleges like Wofford and American. But, for the past few months my top three choices were Central Florida, Florida Atlantic and then Butler.

Leaving Florida turned out to not be a problem for Ligon. "I'll be focusing on basketball once I get there. I don't worry much about moving away from home and changing my regimen too much."
