Kiefer Headed To Purdue

If you know where you want to go, then go ahead and decide. That's exactly what Evansville (IN) Mater Dei combo forward did on Thursday. Kiefer announced his intentions to attend Purdue University next season.

Kiefer Will Play For Keady

On Thursday, Matt Kiefer ended his recruitment. The talented combination forward announced that he would attend Purdue in the fall of 2002. The Boilermakers campus is roughly 3 ½ hours away from his home in Evansville.

"I just think that I know that I wanted to go there," Kiefer said. "I like the whole atmosphere. They are getting good recruits and I look forward to playing there."

Kiefer said that Purdue plans on using him in both forward spots, so it's clear they are impressed with his ability to shoot the basketball from the perimeter. Kiefer also had an offer from hometown Evansville. He was receiving interest from Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan and Kansas. Those programs had planned on evaluating him during the July period.

Purdue is also recruiting a cluster of big men this year including IL PF James Augustine and PF Chris Hunter. Chicago forward Stanley Gaines is another recruit that is popping up on its radar.

Last year, the second-team all-stater averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds.
