City of Palms: Day One Rundown

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Rosco Allen and a handful of underclassman prospects had good showings on the opening day of the City of Palms.

Sam Thompson, SF, Whitney Young – He may not have scored any points, but the 6-foot-6 wing prospect headed to Ohio State left his imprint on the game in other areas. He spent majority of his time on the ball, was active on defense and recorded a number of blocked shots in help side situations.

Adonis Thomas, SF, Melrose – After halftime Thomas, a 6-foot-6 wing headed to Memphis, came out playing with some energy. His rebounding numbers gradually got better and he just appeared to be all over the court. Thomas finished 7-for-14 from the field, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Rosco Allen, SF, Bishop Gorman – Every time we see Allen, a 6-foot-9 combo forward, he appears to be a little bit better. After watching him on the first day of the City of Palms we are thinking more and more that he's a legit small forward. He moves well laterally, is an impressive all around athlete and he attacks off the bounce. He scored 23 points on 6-for-9 shooting and also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Jermaine Morgan, PF, Whitney Young – Rebounding is certainly Morgan's calling card, at least it was on Friday night. The 6-foot-7 junior grabbed rebounds in and out of his area on his way to 16 boards, including six on the offensive end. Morgan may have only scored four points in the win, but his rebounding numbers were a big deal and helped the Dolphins get by Melrose.

Jahlil Okafor, C, Whitney Young – When talking about freshman big man, Okafor has to be the first name to come to mind. A 6-foot-8, 220-pound big man, Okafor reminds some of a young Jared Sullinger because of his size, hands and touch around the basket. He played just 14 minutes, but managed seven points on 3-for-4 shooting and four rebounds.

Whitney Young underclassman Paul White has the look of a wing prospect. The 6-foot-7 forward moves up and down the floor with ease, has good athleticism and can handle the rock a little. Kasey Wilson dropped 32 points in a loss to Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman on Friday. Shabazz Muhammad scored 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting in the win. Angel Rodriguez scored 22 points and tossed out six assists in a two-point loss to Norfolk Christian. North Carolina signee James McAdoo went for 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Robert Carter had a big day for Thomasville (Ga.) High in a blow out win over Bishop Verot. He finished 24 points.
