Long List For Longrus

Richard Longrus, a very promising 2012 forward from Northern California, has picked up several offers from West Coast programs...

Richard Longrus, 6-6 JR SF/PF Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O'Dowd, is one of the top prospects in the west for 2012. A terrific athlete, Longrus is a defender/rebounder in the mold of Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. He's not quite as big as Mbah a Moute, but he has the same strength/agility combination to defend small forwards or power forwards. He also plays with very good energy and is constantly involved in the action. He's not a big scorer, but his stroke is playable to 15-17 feet and he figures to improve in that area over time.

I spoke with Longrus recently and he gave me a long list of schools that have been in contact with him.

"Stanford, Harvard, Cal, UNLV, UCLA, Colorado, Gonzaga, Washington, New Mexico, San Diego State, Santa Clara and Utah," said Longrus.

When asked which schools have offered, Longrus replied, "Colorado, Santa Clara, Utah, Gonzaga and UCLA."

I asked Longrus what he is looking for in a school.

"The coaching is huge for me and definitely the education," said Longrus. "The location is also important. Right now I'm looking at staying in the west. If I were to go to the Midwest or east, it would have to be for really good coaching and a great education."

Longrus said he has been to Stanford, Cal, Santa Clara, San Diego State, St. Mary's and UCLA. I asked him if he has any plans to visit more schools in the near future.

"I definitely plan to visit UCLA again," said Longrus.

I asked Longrus if he has any preference in terms of playing in a big conference or smaller conference.

"I definitely want to play against good competition," said Longrus. "But if the situation is right, then the conference won't matter."

Longrus doesn't see himself making a decision anytime soon.

"I don't plan on deciding during my junior year," said Longrus. "I'll probably commit early in my senior year."

Longrus said he has a 4.0 GPA.
