2013 Intro: Jaaron Simmons

Kettering (OH) Alter point guard Jaaron Simmons is emerging as one of the best floor generals in the 2013 class.

For a city its size, Dayton, Ohio has been producing a lot of talent recently. Maybe the next high level player to come out of the area is Jaaron Simmons. The point guard from Alter High School is off to a good start this season, and colleges in the region are taking notice.

At 5-foot-10, Simmons is very quick with the basketball and has the natural feel for how to play the point guard position. It has been showing through with his performances this season.

"This year so far we have been playing well as a team," said Simmons. "I have been playing well individually. We just have to continue to work hard in practice every day."

He continued, "I am working on my outside jump shot and running my team. Also I am working on finishing in the lane with either hand and just trying to win."

Recently Simmons matched up with 2012 St. John's commit, Jevon Thomas, and played very well against the four-star floor general from New York City.

"Offensively I played well, but I was a little loose with the ball," said Simmons of his matchup with Thomas. "Defensively we play a zone, but he is a good player."

Recruiting wise right now things are at the beginning stages for Simmons, but picked up his first scholarship offer from the University of Dayton during his freshman year.

"I have been hearing from Xavier, Dayton, Cincinnati, Ohio University, Iowa has sent letters, and a few others but I can't remember everything," said Simmons of the schools he is hearing from.

Simmons has made visits to Xavier and Dayton already this season, and is planning on making other trips before the end of the year.

About his only scholarship offer from the Flyers, Simmons said, "It is real good. You know they are always going to have your back throughout the whole process. They have always been right there."

For now Simmons is simply taking his time and seeing what all comes his way. He wants to get as much information as possible on all the schools recruiting him before he makes any kind of decision.
