Walter Pitchford, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward, gave Billy Donovan and his staff a verbal pledge Wednesday afternoon.
"I really like the coaching staff," Pitchford said. "I like the players a lot. The relationship that they have is so strong. [I like] the campus and the students on the campus and I like how everybody gets involved on campus."
"They recruiting me hard and they didn't sugarcoat anything," Pitchford said about the Florida staff.
Florida assistant coach Rob Lanier was the point man for Pitchford's recruitment and the two developed quite a bond.
"We have just been talking a lot," he said. "Obviously he came and saw me play and started recruiting me. We talked for a while and he told me how it was going to be when I got up there. He didnt promise anything he just said I need to battle everyday."
Pitchford, who is averaging 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks per outing, said he also loved the fact that the entire community got involved with the athletics in Gainesville (Fla.).
"When athletics are going everybody is just as intense about everything," he said. "They all want to win and they are winners over there."
Pitchford joins five-star prospect Brad Beal to make up their two-man recruiting class.
