2012 Intro: Ben Carter

Ben Carter, a versatile 2012 forward from Las Vegas, is much improved from a year ago and he's seen his recruitment take off as a result...

Ben Carter, 6-7 JR PF Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, is a very skilled and promising prospect. Carter has a very good handle, and passing ability, with a nice stroke out to 15-17 feet. He's improved a great deal in the last year and he will no doubt end up receiving interest from a number of high major programs.

I spoke with Carter recently and asked about the schools that have been recruiting him to date.

"Boston College just offered and I had offers already from Arizona State and UNLV," said Carter. "I've been talking a lot with Oregon, and I'm hearing from various schools in the Pac-10, WCC and Mountain West."

I asked Carter what he is looking for in a school.

"Just how I fit with the school, whether I can come in and play right away – the situation is the major thing," said Carter. "The relationship with my coach is important. Location is not that big a deal to me. The West Coast would be nice, but it doesn't really matter that much."

Carter has been to a few schools so far.

"I took a visit to St. Louis to see my brother, I've been to Portland on an unofficial and I've also been to UNLV," said Carter. "I'm not sure yet about any other visits I might take. It depends on my schedule with spring and summer ball."

Carter said he's in no hurry to decide.

"I don't really have a time frame for picking a school," said Carter. "Probably sometime next year, but I really haven't given too much thought to it yet."

Carter said he has a 3.0 GPA.
