Dawin Whiten Update

Dawin Whiten, a 6-1 two guard from Monroe High in the San Fernando Valley, is one of the better shooters we've seen in the West Coast class of 2004...

Dawin Whiten, 6-1 JR SG Sepulveda (Calif.) Monroe, looks more like a linebacker than a two guard, but he definitely shoots it well enough to play the two. Although his release is a bit low, Whiten can really stroke it with range when he gets squared up. He's a good, but not great, athlete and we'd project him as a mid major prospect at this time.

We spoke with Whiten yesterday after the Rockfish Top 24 all-star game in which he buried shot after shot. Whiten told us that three schools top his list at the moment -- Tulsa, Texas Tech and Stanford. He said that he's also hearing from Santa Clara, Washington and UC Davis. Whiten expressed a preference for playing at the highest level possible.

Whiten said he has no problem with leaving the west for college and it's possible he'd commit early, if he finds the right fit.

It's possible Whiten will play football next season for Monroe. He's played in the past and said there's an 80% chance he'll play again next year. He told us that he'll play wide receiver.
