Mayo off to Big East

The Marquette Golden Eagles played their way into the NCAA Tournament this week and also picked up a nice commitment for next season.

It is no secret that Buzz Williams like to load up in the backcourt and on the wing, and his 2011 class grew by one of Friday. Fitchburg (MA) Notre Dame Prep standout Todd Mayo decided to end his recruitment and picked Marquette.

At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds with good athleticism and an ability to score, Mayo has seen his stock go up since enrolling at Notre Dame Prep. He has impressed all season long, but Mayo felt loyal to the school that has recruited him for the longest period of time.

"I've had a long year here at Notre Dame Prep," said Mayo. "While some schools are picking up interest now, Marquette has been loyal the whole way."

According to Mayo it isn't just the period of time that Marquette has been recruiting him, but the way they recruited him that made the difference.

"I also like the fact that their whole staff has seen me play and they all like I am a great fit for the Marquette family," Mayo explained. "I've grown to trust Aki Collins and Buzz Williams."

Along with Marquette, Mayo also heard from Baylor, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Memphis, Southern Mississippi, and a few other schools.

By picking Marquette, Mayo becomes the third commitment in the class. He joins three-star point guard Derrick Wilson as well as four-star small forward Juan Anderson.
