Ochefu picks Big East school

Dan Ochefu opted to make his decision on Monday. The talented big man will play his college basketball in the Big East.

Rumors were circulating that Daniel Ochefu was nearing a college decision.

On Monday the 6-foot-9, 225-pound center out of Westtown (Pa.) School opted to formally end his recruitment, picking Jay Wright and the Villanova Wildcats.

"I am really excited to be committing to Villanova because I really liked coach Wright and his assistants," Ochefu said in a message to Scout.com.

"I liked the fact that it's close to my family and that my high school is only 20 minutes away so family and friends can come see me play," he added.

Ochefu, a five-star prospect, considered a handful of programs including Georgetown, Texas, Temple and others, but ultimately he feel for the hometown school.

"I also like that the recruiting classes they have coming into Villanova in the next couple of years," Ochefu said.

Villanova has a four-man recruiting class of Tyrone Johnson, Achraf Yacoubou, Markus Kennedy and Darrun Hilliard in 2011.

The 2012 class already consisted of a pair of top 50 prospects. Now there are three. Ochefu joins five-star wing Savon Goodman and four-star lead guard Ryan Arcidiacono. The class ranks among the top five in 2012.

Ochefu is currently ranked as the No. 6 center and No. 15 overall in the 2012 class.
