2012 Introduction: Dominic Artis

Dominic Artis, a junior point guard from Northern California, has a couple offers as well as interest from some Pac-10 schools...

Dominic Artis, 5-10 JR PG Richmond (Calif.) Salesian, is a quick and talented young prospect with good vision and the ability to break down a defense. He's one of the better point guard prospects in the west for 2012.

I spoke with Artis recently and asked about the schools that have been recruiting him to date.

"I've been hearing mainly from Nevada, Washington State, Cal and Florida International," said Artis. "Nevada and Florida International have offered. I've been hearing a lot from Coach Thomas at FIU. He seems like a real cool guy and he's a good coach."

I asked Artis what he is looking for in a school.

"A good coach is real important," said Artis. "I don't really care about the weather or the location. A good education and good basketball program. Early playing time is also important. I don't want to redshirt."

Artis said he has taken unofficial visits to local schools Cal and Stanford.

"I'll probably wait until after the summer to see which schools I will visit," said Artis. "I want to see who else is interested. And then I'll make my decision after that."

Artis said he has a 3.7 GPA.
