Parker starts off strong

One of the top shooting guards to emerge from the 2013 class is Juwan Parker. Already Parker is reeling in major interest from around the Big XII and beyond.

Playing up a grade level can be tough on the Nike circuit, but for Juwan Parker he is off to a strong start. The Tulsa (OK) Booker T. Washington standout is coming off of an excellent high school season and is transitioning it to a good campaign for Athletes First on the travel circuit.

At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Parker has good size for a guard and uses it to his advantage. A slasher by nature, Parker is ready to improve in all aspects this summer.

"I'm working on my ball handling and athleticism," said Parker. "I am trying to get my Derrick Rose game up. I think I rebound well and my mid-range game is pretty good."

Parker used that well rounded game to help his teammates to another big time season during the high school year.

"My team won the state championship," said Parker. "We were back-to-back state title winners so we had a great year. We went 21-0, and it was a special season."

When it comes to recruiting, numerous schools from all over the country are already showing significant interest in Parker.

"I have offers from Oklahoma State, Baylor, Tulsa, and Minnesota," Parker listed. "Also I am hearing from Texas Tech, Marquette, Clemson, and South Carolina."

At this point Parker is just having fun with the process, and is looking forward to learning about the schools more as he has a chance to make some visits.

"It has been real fun so far," said Parker of his recruitment. "I am taking some visits over the summer or next year to see what college life it like. I am just excited for the whole process."

Once on those visits Parker will know what is he is looking for in a school.

"Mainly I am looking at education and then basketball comes second," explained Parker. "Basketball wise I will look at how good a team is and who they are going to bring in along with me."

For now Parker is just enjoying being back on the travel circuit with his Athletes First team, and feels that they can accomplish a lot this summer.

"It is so much fun," Parker said of the travel circuit. "These guys are a bunch of clowns. It is just a lot of fun. When we get on the court we all just have such good chemistry, and can go real far in a lot of tournaments."
