Iroegbu checks out USC

2013 NorCal point guard Ikenna Iroegbu took an unofficial visit to USC on Thursday. He talks about that and his recruitment in general.

One of the top 2013 point guards on the West Coast is 6-foot-2, 180-pound Elk Grove (Calif.) Franklin's Ikenna Iroegbu.

Iroegbu is a quick guard with very good vision who can get by his defender and find an open teammate. How his scoring comes along will determine what level he gets recruited at, but right now he's on the right track.

"Right now I'm just looking to improve every game," Iroegbu said. "I can push it up the court real fast and I'm a pass-first point guard so I look for my teammates first. I need to improve my range from three-point line and I need to take care of the ball."

At this point, Iroegbu doesn't have any scholarship offers but he's hearing from several schools in the region.

"My recruitment is going well right now; I have a lot of schools talking to me," he said. "It's a lot of Pac-10 schools. I'm hearing from Arizona, California, UCLA, USC and Washington."

On Thursday, Iroegbu took an unofficial visit to USC, which he says went well.

"It was great," he said. "I met with most of the coaching staff and they just seem like down to earth people. Kevin O'Neill is a great defensive coach and he understands point guards."

It's early in Iroegbu's recruiting process, but he has an idea of what he'll want in a program.

"Up-tempo style and weather," Iroegbu said. "As long as the weather is nice, even if it's in Florida or Arizona, I'm cool with that."

Iroegbu didn't grow up rooting for any schools and doesn't have any leaders.

"I'm real open right now," he said.
