Taylor holds three offers

2013 Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon point guard Jahmel Taylor already holds a few offers. He talks about those schools and who else has been recruiting him.

Six-foot, 160-pound Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon point guard Jahmel Taylor has gotten an early start to his recruitment, already holding offers from USC, Washington State and SMU.

Beyond those three, the 2013 prospect is hearing from a handful of others.

"UCLA is interested, as well as Oregon, Georgia Tech and Maryland," Taylor said.

Despite the early offers and interest, Taylor is in no rush to start narrowing things down.

"Right now I'm just weighing my options out," he said.

Taylor plans on making a decision "at the end of junior or senior year" and is looking for a coach that will allow some freedom at the point guard spot.

"I'd like a coach that wants a point guard to lead his team and do what's needed to win games and given the freedom where if he makes a mistake, he's allowed to make up for it," Taylor said.

Something that won't be a factor for Taylor is location.

"That's no problem for me," he said. "As long as it's a good school that will fit me well, I'll go there."

As a player, Taylor is happy with where he's taken his game over the last year.

"I can attack the hole, get to the free throw line quite often, knock down the shot when needed, I'm a leader, I push my teammates to do well in the game and I try my best to win," Taylor said.

"Over the last year I've been constantly working on my ball handling, getting to the hole. I know I can shoot so the next step is getting to the hole and creating more for my team."
