2012 Intro: Joe Rahon

Joe Rahon, a sharp-shooting lead guard out of San Diego, has offers from the ACC and WCC...

Joe Rahon, 6-1 PG Encinitas (Calif.) Torrey Pines, is the younger brother of San Diego State guard James Rahon. Like his older brother, Joe has a very nice stroke with range beyond the three-point line.

I spoke with Rahon recently and he gave me a list of schools that have been in contact with him.

"I'm hearing from Boston College, St. Mary's, Stanford, Washington State, San Diego and San Diego State," said Rahon.

Rahon said a couple schools have extended scholarship offers.

"Boston College and San Diego have offered," said Rahon.

I asked Rahon what he is looking for in a school.

"I'd like to go to the highest level that fits me," said Rahon. "Academics will also be an issue. If I'm comparing two schools that are pretty close in terms of basketball, the academics will play a role. The location doesn't really matter to me. Early playing time is something that I will be looking at. It's not a huge factor, though, because if I want to play at a high level there will probably be good players in front of me."

Rahon has visited the local schools unofficially and says he has another visit lined up.

"I'm going to visit Boston College at the end of June," said Rahon. "I've also been talking with St. Mary's and Washington State about visiting, but we haven't set anything up yet."

Rahon has a time in mind for when he'd like to reach his decision.

"I want to play through July," said Rahon. "Then I will decide sometime between late August and the beginning of my senior season."

Rahon said he has a 4.0 GPA.
