VCU scores first 2012 recruit

Justin Tuoyo had a strong relationship with VCU and their staff. He just needed to see their campus. Once in Richmond, it didn't take long to end his recruitment.

VCU scored early in the 2012 recruiting class.

Justin Tuoyo, a standout at Lovejoy (Ga.) High, committed to Shaka Smart and his staff on Friday, while on campus for an unofficial visit.

"Me and my mom have been talking about it and so have me and coach Morris [Gordon]," Tuoyo told "We came on campus and we liked everything around it. It's just a school I can fit in at."

Tuoyo had a variety of college interest. Central Florida, Georgia Tech, Memphis and Virginia Tech all recruited him, but Tuoyo said his lengthy relationship with VCU, which started more than two years ago, was a major factor.

"I knew I had to come on campus and see how it was," Tuoyo added. "I already knew from talking to them that I had a good relationship with the coaching staff. I knew it was where I wanted to go."

Tuoyo, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound post prospect that runs with the Southern Kings on the spring and summer circuit, is VCU's first 2012 commitment.
