Scout.com's 60th ranked 2012 prospect, 6-foot-2, 170-pound Orange (Calif.) Lutheran shooting guard Gabe York has picked up a big offer, with Arizona officially throwing its hat in the ring for the talented scorer.
A good percentage of York's attention has come from out east, but Arizona has added its name to the list of West Coast schools trying to keep the four-star prospect closer to home.
"It was crazy," York said. "I talked to (Sean Miller) and they were saying two of their guards left, one because his grandma was ill and he's moving closer to where he lives and I guess the other transferred somewhere else, so they said they weren't going to recruit anybody in 2012 at the guard spot, but they ended up needing to.
"They said they need a guard who can really come out and score and handle the ball. He just told me right away they want to offer me, that they need me now and that they're going to pick up the slack that they've been missing for the past year. It's great. I've talked to Arizona a lot; they've always sent me mail and stuff."
Despite the offer, York says that Arizona has some ground to make up.
"They do," he said. "Everyone has been in it for about two years now and they're just starting to get in so there's definitely a lot to make up but I'm interested."
Beyond the Arizona offer, not too much has changed with York's recruitment, although he does have a couple visits he's trying to make.
"At the end of June hopefully I'm going to go to Marquette and Notre Dame because I'm going to the Deron Williams Camp in Chicago," York said.
Beyond Marquette and Notre Dame, York is considering visits to a few other schools.
"I want to see Washington, Kansas and I might go look at Arizona too," he said.
This past weekend, York was in Las Vegas for adidas Nations and he was happy with how he performed.
"I did really well," he said. "I got everyone involved, I scored when I needed to and I did really well in the drills."
