Aldridge Picks Texas

Lamarcus Aldridge will play his college basketball in the Big 12. On Monday, it was confirmed that he's reached a decision and will hold a press conference.

Longhorns Land Big Time Talent

Chalk up another big time prospect for the Big 12. On Monday, Seagoville High School coach Robert Allen confirmed that his talented big man had selected the Texas Longhorns.

"He liked the coaching staff and the facilities," Allen said. "They'll be able to prepare him for the next level." Aldridge isn't a four-year player, but he's going to spend a tour of duty in Austin.

Joining him, of course, is Top Three point guard Daniel Gibson and small forward Dion Dowell. Aldridge's commitment to Texas marks the highest rated prospect to pledge his allegiance to Texas during the Rick Barnes Era.

Since Barnes' arrival, the ‘Horns have landed McDonald's All-Americans Brian Boddicker, T.J. Ford, Brad Buckman and next year Gibson and Aldridge will likely join that list.

Allen said that Aldridge selected Texas after giving strong consideration to both Florida and Oklahoma. Word started to leak out that Aldridge would pick Texas at last weekend's Kingwood Classic. We started believing the rumors when few head coaches spent time in the gym recruiting and watching Aldridge play. Most of the head coaches were there for Jason Horton, a leading indication that the Aldridge sweepstakes had basically ended.

Allen confirmed our suspicions when he said that Lamarcus had reached the decision late last week.

UT has Gibson, Aldridge and Mike Williams on campus officially this week and has an early inside track on the nation's top-ranked recruiting class.
