One off the top 2012 prospects in the Los Angeles area, 6-foot-8, 225-pound North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake power forward Zena Edosomwan has seen his college interest pick up with a strong spring.
Over the past week, Edosomwan has taken unofficial visits to UCLA and USC, both of which he says he enjoyed.
Scout.com caught up with Edosomwan following his Monday trip to Westwood.
"I went to UCLA and got to meet with coach (Ben) Howland and his staff," Edosomwan said. "It was great. I got to learn more about the basketball tradition, coach (John) Wooden, all the great players, like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It was a great visit. It's a beautiful campus and it was fun."
While on campus, Edosomwan was told that UCLA will be keeping a close eye on him when the staff can go back out on the road in July.
"Basically they said that coach Howland has been hearing a lot of good things about how I've been doing this spring and he really wants to watch me play before he offers. It's more motivation for me," he said.
Last Thursday, Edosomwan headed to USC's campus, the second time he's taken an unofficial visit there.
"It was great," Edosomwan said. "I want to major in medicine so I got to see the medical school and learn how the alumni network works. I got to see the weight room and learn more about everyday life of a college basketball player there."
USC has already offered Edosomwan and he says that it is one of his top schools.
"I really like coach (Kevin) O'Neill and the staff," he said. "Coach O'Neill has NBA experience so he knows what it takes to get kids to the next level. He told me he doesn't recruit kids based on what they're ranked but what he thinks of them, and I really enjoyed that. They're one of my favorite schools; they're up there. I'm very interested in USC."
Despite Edosomwan's interest in both local schools, he maintains that he's open to going anywhere in the country for college.
"I'm completely open to going anywhere," Edosomwan said. "As long as it's the right fit for me, I don't mind going somewhere away from home. I'm really open to everywhere as long as it's a good place for me to go and have an impact. With good academics, that's the best of both worlds."
