Shrigley headed to Aztecs

San Diego State has picked up its second 2012 commitment, this one being a local prospect in La Costa Canyon's Matt Shrigley. He talks to about his decision.

San Diego State has added to its 2012 recruiting class, picking up a commitment from 6-foot-6, 190-pound Encinitas (Calif.) La Costa Canyon shooting guard Matt Shrigley.

The wing committed to the Aztecs on an unofficial visit to the school Thursday.

"The (coaches) were very happy," Shrigley said. "A couple hugs, a couple cheers. They were very excited."

Shrigley cited his relationship with the San Diego State staff as the primary reason for his choice.

"I have a great relationship with coach (Steve) Fisher," he said. "I feel like I can trust them and that program will help me be successful and get me to the highest level I can get to in my career."

When Shrigley gets to San Diego State, he hopes to use his first year as a learning experience.

"I want to come in as a freshman and absorb a lot of information; I'll make myself a sponge," he said. "I want to make an impact on the wing and be able to score and do a lot of things."

The recruiting process being over is a relief, Shrigley said.

"I'm very happy," he says. "It's a good relief knowing I have a place to go after high school where I can be successful."

Matt Shrigley joins North Hollywood (Calif.) Campbell Hall small forward Cole Huff in San Diego State's 2012 class.
