Howard continues balancing act

Pearl (Miss.) 2012 small forward Twymond Howard is getting attention in both basketball and football. He talks to about his recruiting process.

One of top two-sport stars in the 2012 class, 6-foot-6,180-pound Pearl (Miss.) small forward Twymond Howard is receiving recruiting interest in both basketball and football.

Howard's recruiting list in basketball includes offers from Mississippi State, Tennessee, Old Miss, Wake Forest and Baylor, with interest coming from Arkansas, Maryland, West Virginia and Auburn, amongst others.

He's also getting football attention, despite not playing the sport over the last couple of years.

"For football I know Southern has offered me, but there's been a lot who have been on me like Miami, Mississippi State amd Old Miss," Howard said.

For now, Howard plans on concentrating on what school ultimately will give him the best opportunity.

"I like both sports so whatever one I can do better at, that's what I'm going to do," he said.

Howard is busy working on his game - "I've been just grinding it out, practicing every day and working on everything," he said - and doesn't want to concentrate on his recruitment just yet.

"I'll just see how the summer goes for me and we'll see how it works out," Howard said. "I'm just open to everybody. I'm open for any school that wants me."

When it comes time to take visits, Howard would like to check out some places he hasn't been to yet.

"I'd like to check out some out of state schools," he said. "I've been to the in-state schools so I'd like to see North Carolina or visit some places like that."

Howard has a couple things he'll be looking for in a school, although he's in no rush to decide.

"Education and how they produce players, stuff like that," he said. "I don't want to make a decision too early. I want to see who all comes."
