Eclectic List For SoCal Shooter
Mike Hornbuckle, 6-3 JR SG Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, is a very good shooter with a nice feel for the game. We spoke with Hornbuckle in Las Vegas last weekend and he told us that he's hearing from Colorado St., Yale, Loyola Marymount, Houston, Northwestern and Navy, among others. Hornbuckle moved to Southern California from Boston a couple years ago. We asked if he had a preference and he said, "I like the west better -- better weather." When questioned about how he would make his decision, Hornbuckle said, "I'll see how I do on the SAT and with my academics. Then I want to see how much I improve -- get in the weight room and see how I play." Hornbuckle said he'd like to play at the highest level possible, but isn't necessarily looking for early time. "I want to get used to the program, the offense they run, for the first couple years," Hornbuckle said. "Early time is not that important." Several schools have had contact with Hornbuckle recently. "I talked with Navy and Yale," said Hornbuckle. "Colorado St. talked with my Dad and Northwestern has talked with my high school coach." Horbuckle said he'd prefer to make an early decision, but it's not an absolute. He told us he has a 3.0 GPA and scored 1100 on the PSAT. He's currently taking a class to prepare for the SAT.
