Artis visits UCLA

2012 point guard Dominic Artis visited UCLA on Tuesday. He talked to Scout.com about the visit and where his recruitment stands following the trip.

On Tuesday, UCLA hosted a top 2012 point guard target in 5-foot-11, 170-pound Richmond (Calif.) Salesian's Dominic Artis, one of the fastest rising prospects on the West Coast.

It was a chance for UCLA to show off its campus to a player the Bruins recently offered and started seriously targeting.

"I got there and met with coach (Ben) Howland," Artis said. "He explained to me that he wants me to be a part of his program. He showed me around campus, we saw the facilities, we talked about how the roster looks for the year I come in and I met some of the guys that are there for summer school.

"We talked about the legacy they have, how all of their point guards have been very successful. We also talked about the new gym they'll have when I would come in."

Artis says that he wasn't pressured to commit and the visit was more of a learning experience.

"I think they just wanted me to get more aware and knowing of their program," he said. "They just showed me around and didn't pressure me."

Following the trip, Artis said that he was impressed by what he saw in Westwood but remains open in his recruitment.

"I liked it, it was nice," he said. "They're definitely on my list but I'm still very open to any school that wants to recruit me. I'm waiting on July to hit. Hopefully I'll have a good July and we'll see where it goes from there. I'm just completely open right now.

"I plan on going through July and seeing who is still deeply interested in me, who is showing me the same love that they had once July started. I want to know who is really into me and has seen me play and knows what I have to offer."

Artis could ultimately end up taking some official visits, but that remains up in the air as of now.

"If it's the school and I know exactly where I want to go then I won't take any officials because I think I'd be wasting time but if there are a couple schools where I'm not too sure, I'll take officials to them," Artis said.
