Artis has leader

Dominic Artis probably won't take long before announcing where he'll head to college. He tells who leads to get his commitment and when he'll make that decision.

The recruiting process may not last much longer for 5-foot-11, 170-pound 2012 Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep point guard Dominic Artis.

On Wednesday, Artis said that he's nearing closer to a decision.

"Sometime after July, probably after Las Vegas," Artis said of a timetable. "Probably right after the tournament. I think I'll have a little conference with my family for people who want to come and announce there."

Artis confirmed that UCLA is the team to beat at this stage in his recruitment.

"I really like Ben Howland and how he plays with the ball screens," he said. "It fits my style of play. Also, I went there and really liked the campus. The guys up there were cool and it just seems like a good fit.

"They have a great legacy of point guards. The last four or five have moved on to play at the next level. I'd definitely have that opportunity if I played well."

While he isn't ready to announce a decision, Artis said that he's leaning towards choosing UCLA.

"I would say most likely, yeah," Artis said when asked if he's leaning in the direction of committing to UCLA at the end of July. "I'm still pretty open but I would say right now, definitely UCLA is the leader."

Going through the recruiting process a whole lot longer doesn't appear to be something that Artis has much interest in.

"The process is crazy so I'm really looking forward to choosing a school," he said.
