Just days after blowing up at multiple events in the Los Angeles area during the first July Evaluation Period, 6-foot-10, 210-pound Glendale (Ariz.) Kellis power forward Kenny Martin has jumped on an offer to Arizona State.
The mobile big man with a good motor and nice outside shot is a good pickup for the Sun Devils, who didn't miss a game Martin played in according to AAU squad Arizona Aces GM Gus Esposito.
"One thing I observed is that the Arizona State coaches were at every one of his games," Esposito said. "They didn't miss a game for 10 days. Kenny likes them and they like Kenny. They had to know what Kenny's capabilities were. Knowing that gave Kenny a sense of comfort."
According to Martin, that relationship with the ASU staff was a big part of his commitment.
"(Arizona State assistant) Lamont Smith is a pretty good guy," Martin said. "We've made a great relationship just talking and went from there."
Martin mentioned some other factors for why he chose the Sun Devils.
"I wanted to stay close to home," he said. "I have friends and family here and they support me through everything and I need that support when I'm in college. I liked their style of play and their coaching, I fit in well with it."
Kenny Martin joins Chandler Hamilton center Eric Jacobsen as Arizona State's two 2012 commitments.
