Shepard Sorting Through Offers

Winston Shepard, one of the elite defenders in the west for 2012, has a variety of high major programs on him...

Winston Shepard, 6-6 SR SF Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep, is a very good athlete and he's improved quite a bit in the last year. Shepard lacked focus at times in the past, but he's played very well this month. In particular, his decision-making and defense have been much better. He's extremely quick laterally for his size and he's probably the best defender in the West Coast class of 2012.

I spoke with Shepard recently and asked about the schools recruiting him.

"UCLA, Kansas, Texas, Kentucky, New Mexico, San Diego State, UTEP, Memphis and Oklahoma State," said Shepard. "UCLA and Kentucky are the only ones that haven't offered."

I asked Shepard what he is looking for in a school.

"I want to play right away and I want a coach that can help get me to the next level," said Shepard.

Shepard said he doesn't have a leader, but does have a date in mind for paring down his list.

"I want to cut my list to five by August 22nd," said Shepard.

Shepard has been to a number of schools already.

"I've been to UCLA, San Diego State, UNLV, Memphis, Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma State," said Shepard. "But I'd like to take all five of my official visits."
