Ole Miss nabs Newby

Ole Miss snags a quality commitment from Memphis native Martavious Newby.

The Ole Miss Rebels made sure to be present all the time during July tracking Memphis YOMCA and in specific Martavious Newby. The 6-foot-4 wing was very impressive at the Nike Peach Jam and saw his stock soar. Now he is off the board.

Newby's commitment to Memphis was confirmed by YOMCA AAU coach DeJuan Taylor in a text saying, "Yes the commitment is true."

This is a big pledge for Head Coach Andy Kennedy who made Newby a priority from day one. Even with new schools calling after his performance at the Peach Jam, the work Ole Miss did from day one paid off in a big way.

Along with Ole Miss, Newby had offers from Auburn, Arkansas, and Missouri. Memphis, Nebraska, Tulane, and UTEP were also monitoring him very closely.

Newby becomes the first commitment for the Rebels in the 2012 class and should have a chance to come in right away and compete for minutes.
