Taylor goes with Marquette

Steve Taylor is off the board. He picked Marquette over interest from a number of high major programs.

Marquette made Steve Taylor a priority early in his high school career.

That early attention paid off for Buzz Williams and his staff, as they picked up a verbal pledge from the 2012 top 100 prospect on Sunday.

"It's a great fit," Taylor said. "I can see myself playing there. They've been around for a long time.

Taylor said he also strongly considered Missouri and DePaul.

"I really want my family to come see me play and my coaches from high school," Taylor added.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound power forward strung together an impressive spring and summer playing with the Mac Irvin Fire. A four-star prospect, Taylor currently ranks No. 72 in the 2012 class.

"Coach Buzz and coach [Tony] Benford did a great job of recruiting him and he is a great fit for their system," Fire coach Mike Irvin told Scout.com.

Taylor is Marquette's third commitment for the 2012 class. He joins JUCO standout T.J. Taylor and four-star Virginia native Jamal Ferguson.
