Willis officially opens it up

Derek Willis is officially back on the market. He decommitted from Purdue on Sunday.

Derek Willis made it official on Sunday.

After putting on his Facebook earlier in the week that he was decommitted from Purdue, Willis' father claimed they were still committed, but would comment on it on Sunday.

Today, Del Willis, his father, announced their decision to re-open Derek's recruitment.

"Derek, his high school and us talked it over for two hours and we decided it would be best to re-open his recruitment so Derek is no longer committed to Purdue," the elder Willis said.

"It's been a stressful few days, but we felt this was best," he added."

According to Willis, his son will still keep Purdue as a possibility.

"Derek still loves Purdue, but he wants to go through the entire process and take all five os hif official visits next year," he said.

After making an early decision the first time around, Willis, a 2013 prospect out of Mount Washington (Ky.) Bullitt East, will likely wait out the process.

"He won't commit early to a school," Will said. "He will probably just wait until it gets close to signing day next year and then he will announce where he is going."

Willis is rated as a four-star prospect and ranks among the top 50 prospects in his class.
