Beachem adds Interest

Things are picking up on the recruiting trail for V.J. Beachem who already holds three offers with one unofficial visit slated for the near future.

It was a good July for V.J. Beachem. The New Haven (IN) High School standout was impressive running with the Eric Gordon All-Stars, and that has led to increased attention on the recruiting trail.

At 6-foot-6 and 175 pounds, Beachem isn't the most physical prospect out there, but the wing is very talented. An excellent shooter with the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim, Beachem has the skill set that big time coaches are looking for.

"I took a few days off after we got back from Vegas, but other than that I have been working hard, and my phone has been ringing off the hook," said Beachem.

For Beachem there are some old schools on the list and some new coaches are also beginning to get involved.

"Right now it is Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Butler, Notre Dame, Xavier, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgetown Minnesota, Stanford, and Florida contacting me the most," said Beachem. "Purdue, Butler, and Notre Dame are my three offers right now."

Purdue was one of the first schools to offer Beachem, but it looked as though their 2013 class was filled until a recent de-commitment. Now the Boilermakers are working to get back involved.

"I talked to Coach (Jack) Owens from Purdue and with the scholarship in my class opening up after Derek Willis de-committed, he really talked about everything that he used to say to me about fitting in not only on the floor but off the floor as well," said Beachem.

Another in-state school, Indiana also filled some scholarships in the 2013 class early, but also has begun to get seriously involved since July finished.

"I talked to Coach (Tom) Crean about playing with the guys who are already there," explained Beachem. "They have that big class in 2012 and of course my two teammates who are already committed in 2013, so he talked about how that could be special."

While those two schools are beginning to re-emerge as presences in Beachem's recruitment, he is set to visit a different in-state program in the near future.

"I have one visit set up to Notre Dame on August 27," Beachem said. "I really like Notre Dame and like what they have going on there. They had a big year last year. I love Notre Dame and what they have going on there."

Even with a visit on the horizon, don't look for any kind of quick decision from Beachem who plans on taking some before making a commitment.

"I don't see a decision coming before the school season starts," he said. "Maybe during or after, but I don't see it coming before."

When it is time to make a commitment, there are certain factors that Beachem will play close attention to which will put one school over the top.

"I have three main things I look for in every college," said Beachem. "Number one is a place that graduates players, second is a family atmosphere, and the last thing is a place where I can make an impact as a freshman."

Currently Beachem is ranked as the No. 80 prospect in the nation and the No. 18 small forward in the 2013 class.
