Smith goes with Clemson

After gaining more and more interest in July, Josh Smith opted to end his recruitment. He'll take his game to the ACC.

Shortly after seeing the Clemson campus, Josh Smith, a 2012 big man out of Charlotte (N.C.) Olympic, made a verbal pledge.

According to Smith's high school coach Ty Baumgardner, the Thursday unofficial visit ultimately led to the quick commitment.

"He went down for an unofficial and just really fell in love with coach Brownell and everything he had to say and his personality and the direction he has that program headed," Baumgardner said.

Smith, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound center, also considered East Carolina, Tulane, Winthrop, Appalachian State and others.

"Clemson was high on his list from the get go and just going down there and being around those guys and seeing everything first hand and having a chance to sit down with coach Brownell just blew him and his mother away," Baumgardner said.

"He has a really good relationship with coach Grant and he feel in love with the campus and everything." He added.

Clemson now has a trio of commitments in the 2012 class. Smith joins South Carolina native Jordan Roper and Georgia native Jaron Blossomgame to make up their currently 2012 class.

Smith went for 12 points a game as a junior at Olympic.
