White enjoys trips

Andrew White is still in the process of figuring which schools will make the cut, and made several recent unofficial visits.

One of the true breakout stars of the 2012 class this spring and summer was Andrew White. The shooting guard who is native of Richmond, Virginia exploded on the scene and has racked up numerous offers. Now he is in the process of making unofficial visits, and just came off one to Cincinnati.

"I loved the trip," said White of Cincinnati. "The campus was great. I liked how it is a closed campus and I saw a lot of people. I met the strength coach, president, and Coach (Mick) Cronin was great to."

He continued, "They just made it clear that I was a priority and that they needed my position. They said they didn't want me, they needed me. That made it a good feeling. It was good to get away from home because you need to see some different areas. The staff just did an excellent job."

Also in recent weeks White has made unofficial visits to West Virginia, North Carolina State, and George Mason. All the trips offered a little something different, and White saw what the schools had to offer.

Over the summer White played on Team Loaded with current Wolfpack commitment Tyler Lewis. White and Lewis still speak, and while there is no pressure being put on, White knows where Lewis stands.

"I talk to Tyler every once in a while and he just mentions NC State is a great place," said White. "He doesn't beat me up about it, he just kind of touches on it. He isn't recruiting me hard, but he makes me aware that he wants me to go there. When I went there all the coaches treated me well and filled me in about everything."

West Virginia also laid out a very nice presentation for White.

"The West Virginia trip went real well," White explained. "They gave a great visit. Coach Larry Harrison and Coach (Bob) Huggins walked around with me and showed me the new practice facility. I got to meet with the players and talk to them. My dad and I walked around campus and got to see people."

For White it is important that he sees as many schools as possible in order to get a great feel for the staffs and the universities recruiting him.

"The reason why I want to visit is to see my options," White explained. "You can't judge a school without seeing it. I am not driving all around just to do it. I really want to get a feel for the staff and players so I get a visual of what I would get if I went to that school."

He continued, "I am looking at all the schools now, and after my high school starts up I will make a couple more visits and then narrow it down."

Along with the schools mentioned on recent visits, White also has offers from Louisville, Richmond, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Memphis, South Florida, Texas, and Virginia Tech.

While not ready to narrow his list down quite yet, White does know what he is looking for in the schools that are recruiting him.

"Most important for me is the system that I would be going into," White explained. "Also I am looking at my opportunity to play. I know I will take care of the academic part of things, so it will come down to relationships and a gut feeling."

For the No. 53 ranked player in the country, White acknowledges the hard work all the coaches are putting in recruiting them.

"I really just want to thank all of the college coaches who are recruiting me, all of my coaches, and everybody who helped me take these visits," said White. "It means a lot to me and I just want everybody to know how thankful I am for this opportunity."
