Marrero heads to Big East

Three star combo forward DeJuan Marrero has made his decision official, he is headed to the Big East.

It was a long process for Gary (Ind.) Bowman Academy standout DeJuan Marrero, but now his recruitment has been finalized. On an unofficial visit, Marrero decided on a Big East school.

A 6-foot-5 combo forward, Marrero is one of the best rebounders in the class of 2012. He played most of the summer with Spiece Indy Heat and proved to be one of the best rebounders in the EYBL before finishing up with the SYF Players.

After his long summer, Marrero decided on the DePaul Blue Demons while on an unofficial visit.

"Nobody really expected it, but at the end of the day you can only pick one school," said Marrero of DePaul. "Me, Coach Marvin (Rea), and my mom decided it was the best fit. It fits my type of style and I really liked the campus.

With the way DePaul plays, pressing and playing at a fast tempo, Marrero felt it would be the perfect fit, and it allows him to play out on the wing.

"Coach (Oliver) Purnell sees me as a three and I can guard one through four on the floor, and sometimes five depending on how the defense is," said Marrero. "He did promise me playing time depending on how hard I work. I felt that I fit in perfect with their pressing style works well with what I do on the floor."

By pulling the trigger on his pledge Marrero becomes the first commitment in DePaul's 2012 class.
