On Sunday night, Hargrave Military forward Ryan Lambert became the first recruit for new Western Kentucky head coach Darrin Horn.
"I compared it with some other schools and I liked their tradition and the opportunity to play right away was there," Lambert said Sunday night.
"Coach just wants to win and I like that."
Lambert said that the opportunity to be Horn's first recruit excited him. "[Coach Horn] came after me hard. He came to my school and talked to me about it. He told me I was the first phone call he made and it made me feel really good. He's bringing me in to play right away. I know he'll take care of me and that's the feeling I'm getting. The players were good guys too."
Lambert played his AAU ball with Rob Jackson's DC Blue Devils. He looked hard at Duquesne -- which he visited this past weekend -- and also at Virginia Commonwealth and St. Bonaventure.
At Western Kentucky, Lambert will play a dual role. He said the Hilltoppers are excited about him being able to come down the floor and use his versatility to shoot the trail 3-pointer. The lefty has always liked to face the basket but he's athletic and can also get things done inside.
To get a guy of Lambert's pedigree who can come in and help right away, especially at this juncture in the spring, is a very strong addition and a great start for a new staff.
