Orris goes with the Illini

Bruce Weber and company picked up their first 2012 commitment on Sunday. Michael Orris is on the board.

Illinois brought in Michael Orris in on an official visit this past weekend.

Shortly after the trip, Orris, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Crete (Ill.) Crete-Monee, gave Illinois a verbal pledge.

Illinois Old School coach Scott Lidskin confirmed the news to Scout.com.

"Michael felt that it was a good fit," Lidskin said. "It's not far from his home. It's an hour and a half away. He really likes the coaching staff."

Lidskin said Orris also considered Nebraska, Boston College, Virginia and Northern Illinois.

"They feel that Illinois is going to be a real good team," Lidskin added. "They feel they are going to have a real good chance to get to the NCAA tournament every year."

Orris is Bruce Weber's first commitment of the 2012 class.
