Tide Land In-State Guard

Ronnie Steele will play his college basketball exactly 56 miles from his home. He'll also play at the same college his mother graduated from.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are on the board. Coach Mark Gottfried landed a significant piece of the Tide's recruiting puzzle over the weekend when guard Ronnie Steele committed to the Tide.

"I think he was impressed with the coaching staff and being near home was another factor," Ronnie Steele, Sr., said.

Steele was thought to be considering Auburn, Vanderbilt, Alabama-Birmingham and Kentucky. "He made an unofficial visit and he's played in numerous tournaments down there so he was impressed with the campus. He liked Mark and Coach Pearson and I think that made the difference."

Steele's mother is a graduate of Alabama and the family resides 56 miles from the Tide's campus and viewed staying close to home as an advantage for the Crimson Tide.
