Powns Going Through Process

Keywhon Powns, an intriguing combo guard from Southern California, tells us he's hearing from four schools...

Keywhon Powns, 6-2 SR PG/SG Los Angeles (Calif.) Westchester, is a terrific athlete with a high upside. While he's not a true PG, Powns does have good enough balls skills to play the one and he will likely be able to defend the one or two at the next level.

I spoke with Powns recently and he said four schools are involved with him at the moment.

"I'm hearing from Florida State, Marquette, San Diego State and Cal State Northridge," said Powns.

Powns said that Northridge has offered a scholarship.

When asked what he's looking for in a school, Powns said "the area, the weather and a chance to play right away."

Powns said two schools stand out of for him.

"I like Florida State and San Diego State," said Powns. "I really like the state of Florida. And with San Diego State, I know their program is getting better and better."

Powns said he is in no hurry to pick a school.

"I'll probably wait until spring to make sure I'm picking the right school," said Powns.

Powns said he has a 2.8 GPA.
