Flemming Draws Interest

Daniel Flemming, a somewhat unknown power forward from Murietta Valley, will have numerous opportunities due to a very strong academic profile...

Daniel Flemming, 6-7 JR PF Murietta Valley (Calif.) High, told us last night that he's interested in UC Santa Barbara, Princeton, Utah, Stanford, Yale and Oregon.

Flemming said Santa Barbara and UC Riverside have both been to his high school to meet with him.

Flemming visited Santa Barbara unofficially last weekend and sounded enthusiastic about the Gauchos. "It was great there," said Flemming. "A really nice campus and I like the coaches. They've been recruiting me the hardest and they're the leader right now."

We asked Flemming what factors he'll consider when making his choice. "Location – I'd like to stay close to home," said Flemming. "Early time would be a big deal – I don't want to wait until my junior year to play. But if I went to a bigger school, I'd understand that I might not play right away."

When we asked Flemming about the opportunity to possibly attend an Ivy League school, he expressed reservations. "They don't give scholarships there," said Flemming. "So unless I could get some kind of aid….I wouldn't want to make my parents pay for that."

Flemming said he wants to sign in the early signing period, but doesn't anticipate a decision prior to the summer. "I want to wait and see what happens," Flemming said. "I could blow up in July."

Flemming told us that his GPA is around 3.3 or 3.4. He said he scored 1340 on the SAT.
