IU, Charlotte, Wake Receive Commitments
Well, Indiana head coach Mike Davis finally received his first commitment of the year. However, it came from someone other than Sean May, Bracey Wright and John Gilchrist.
Marshall Strickland, a point guard, accepted IU's scholarship offer. Strickland confirmed the commitment when we saw him at the Peach Jam. Just this week, he told us that it was likely he would wait and re-open the process. However, in thinking it over Marshall decided to become a Hoosier sooner than later. Unless Gilchrist opts to join him, Strickland will be Indiana's point guard of the future.
Down in Charlotte, Bobby Lutz has his man. NC SG Vincent Grier of Raleigh (NC) Bonner Academy selected the 49ers. Grier is an emerging backcourt prospect who gets to the rim like few in the Class of 2002 can. With an improving perimeter game, he absolutely fits the Charlotte style of play perfectly and we imagine he'll be a big-time part of their program for the next four years.
Skip Prosser rallied the Demon Deacons and landed C Eric Williams. Williams hails from Wake Forest (NC) Rolesville and despite the location and name of his hometown, he's actually much closer to Raleigh and NC State than he is Wake Forest. However, Williams who blew up at Nike Camp last week, opted to make the trip down I-40 to play for Prosser. He's Wake's third commitment of the year and the best player in what is shaping up to be a very good three-man class.
