Verhoeven takes first visit

One visit down, two to go for 2012 center Grant Verhoeven. He talks to Scout.com about his trip to California and what's next.

This weekend, 6-foot-8, 220-pound Visalia (Calif.) Central Valley Christian 2012 center Grant Verhoeven took his official visit, checking out California.

Verhoeven enjoyed his trip to the nearby college.

"It was great," Verhoeven said. "It was a good experience. I got to meet with the coaches and get to know them and the players better and see what life is like at Cal."

The Cal coaching staff is something that stood out, Verhoeven said.

"Coach (Mike) Montgomery has a history of developing good big men and that really appeals to me the way he develops players," said Verhoeven.

Even though he enjoyed his visit, Verhoeven has two more to go before making a decision.

"I'll make my two other official visits and after I think about it a little more I should know where I'm going," Verhoeven said. "I have St. Mary's this weekend and then Stanford in two weeks."

Until he sees all three schools, Verhoeven doesn't plan on publicly leaning in any direction.

"I'm definitely keeping an open mind going into the other visits," he said. "Afterwards I'll just look at the pros and cons of each college and see what I like best."
