Johnson holds offers from local schools

One of the top 2014 prospects out west, Stanley Johnson had a very impressive showing this past summer. He gives an update on his recruitment.

While 6-foot-5, 190-pound Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei 2014 small forward Stanley Johnson is going to end up with a long list of scholarship offers, for now he holds two in local Pac-12 programs UCLA and USC.

Although he's also hearing from Washington, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Marquette and Kentucky, amongst others, Johnson speaks favorably about both schools which have offered.

"I like the UCLA coaching staff," Johnson said. "Coach (Scott) Garson and coach (Ben) Howland are really expressing how much they want me at their school. They're giving me a lot of great energy.

"USC is the same way. Coach Dieter (Horton) and coach (Kevin) O'Neill have said to me how much they want me at their school. They said the offer is there for forever and a day, and that means a lot too."

Johnson says that UCLA, USC, Washington and Colorado are the schools which have come by to see him work out at Mater Dei so far, and mentioned Arizona and Washington as two of the schools which have been doing a good job recruiting him.

"I like how they recruit," Johnson said of Arizona. "They usually have the best class in the game and the coaches are very excited about me. They do everything as a basketball program to win championships, and that's what I want to do."

"I like the Washington coaches; they really believe in Washington. I've heard it's a really good school. I'm planning on visiting them."

Besides Washington, Johnson has another visit he's working on setting up.

"We're going to visit Arizona," he said. "They want me to come for College Game Day (on Jan. 28)."
