"Tony signed with North Carolina State," Darnell Bethel, Tony's father said. "It's a great program, great coaching staff. We had a wonderful visit and it's exactly what Tony was looking for. It was a good match. We were totally impressed. It's a great facility and great basketball area. It's got all the pieces."
And Bethel comes with some pieces that the Pack has been seeking. Since arriving at Georgetown from Montrose Christian, Bethel was a key figure for the Hoyas. Last season, he averaged 31 minutes a game to go with 10.8 points to go with 3.6 assists and nearly two steals a game. His conference numbers were slightly higher.
Bethel connected on 80% of his free throws and made 54-of-155 3-point attempts. He started 52 of his 58 games at Georgetown, including all 34 last year.
Once he became available, the Pack moved quickly to make his visit happen. "The staff was professional and courteous. Coach Sendek and the staff did a wonderful job. We were totally impressed."
Impressed and needed. "He's going to come in and play the point as is defined by their program. It's the perfect match for Tony's skills and abilities. He'll have a whole year to practice and learn the system. We're just thrilled with the fit."
