Armando Surratt Gets Discovered

The Oakland point guard Armando Surratt was a late-addition to the ABCD camp, but he made the most of his opportunity, getting some interest from a range of new schools...

Armando Surratt, 5-9 SR PG, Oakland (Calif.) Tech, put in a performance good enough to get him some new recruiting attention.

"I'm now hearing from USC and Georegtown," Surratt said. "Also UTEP, San Jose State and Tulsa. I'd love to hear from Arizona, but that probably won't happen."

Surratt said that the last couple of days at ABCD he was slowed by a hip pointer, but still thinks he did pretty well. "It's great to come out here and show that you're just as good as everyone else," he said. Surratt wasn't chosen to attend ABCD until just before the camp but he thought he made that last-minute change look worthy. "I didn't expect to come, but when I found out I was, I knew I really wanted to come here and show that I belonged. I think I did that."

Surratt admits that he needs to do some work academically to qualify. He said he has a 2.3 GPA. He took the SAT in June and said he hasn't received his score as of yet.
