Verhoeven days away from decision

Now that he's taken all three official visits, a decision date is set for 2012 center Grant Verhoeven,'s 78th ranked 2012 prospect.

The recruiting process for 6-foot-8, 220-pound Visalia (Calif.) Central Valley Christian 2012 center Grant Verhoeven is close to the finish line.

Organized Chaos AAU coach Chris Stahowski tells that a commitment should come between finalists Stanford, California and St. Mary's this week.

"The goal is to announce his decision at a press conference at his school on Friday," Stahowski said.

With the decision date getting close, it's no surprise that Verhoeven has an idea where he's going to college.

"He has an idea down to his final two," Stahowski said. "He's getting close. I think he's leaning one way right now but he wants to get away from his visits a little bit and make sure that's the right one.

"He doesn't want his visits to cloud his decision, he doesn't want them to be the sole basis of it. He's close, he's really close though."

Heading into the official visits to all three schools, a sticking point for Verhoeven was how he would get along with the players on each team.

"His big thing was being around the guys," Stahowski said. "He wanted to see the atmosphere around the teammates and get to know the guys he'd be going to battle with.

"He was hoping that he'd be able to go through and find one school that stood out above the others and it actually became a problem. At all three schools, he got along with the guys great. It's made the decision tougher on him than he anticipated."
