2013 Intro: Darian Johnson

Darian Johnson, a talented junior combo guard from Northern California, says three schools currently top his list...

Darian Johnson, 6-2 JR SG/PG Elk Grove (Calif.) Franklin, is one of the more promising guards in the west for 2013. A versatile prospect, Johnson is a good athlete with solid ball skills. We're projecting him at the two for now, but it's possible he ends up playing some point guard eventually.

I spoke with Johnson recently and he gave me a long list of schools that have been in touch with him.

"Colorado, Pacific, San Francisco, USC, Washington State, Boise State, Santa Clara, UC Santa Barbara, Fresno State and Virginia Tech," said Johnson.

When asked which schools had extended scholarship offers, Johnson replied "USF, Santa Clara, UCSB and Fresno State."

I asked Johnson if any schools stand out for him at this time.

"Right now my top three would probably be Washington State, Virginia Tech and USF," said Johnson.

I asked Johnson about the issues that will be important to him when choosing a school.

"The tempo, style of play, the coaching staff, the overall atmosphere at the school and the academics," said Johnson.

Johnson has taken a few unofficial visits so far.

"I've been to Washington State, USF and Santa Clara," said Johnson. "I'm planning on taking a visit to USC."

Johnson said he has no time frame for picking a school.

"I'm going to take my time and weigh all my options," said Johnson.

Johnson said he has a 2.8 GPA.
