Hammons makes his choice

The Purdue Boilermakers landed their fourth commitment in the 2012 class.

The Purdue Boilermakers were looking to add a legit center to their 2012 class, and on Thursday night they got the news that they wanted. Indiana native and current Mouth of the Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy center A.J. Hammons committed to the school according to AAU Coach Jared Quarles.

"I just spoke to Steve Smith and A.J. has committed to Purdue," said Quarles.

At 6-foot-10 and 270 pounds, Hammons is the type of legitimate center that the Boilermakers needed on their roster.

In order to land the commitment, Purdue had to stave off Cincinnati, Minnesota, Dayton, and numerous other schools for his commitment. In the end the comfort with the school and the location of West Lafayette to his hometown of Gary, Indiana played a huge role in the decision.

Hammons is now the fourth commitment in the 2012 class for the Boilermakers joining Raphael Davis, Ronnie Johnson, and Jay Simpson in the class. Hammons checks in as the No. 83 prospect in the country.
