Watson is Emerging

Among the west coast players who are really emerging this July is Las Vegas point guard C.J. Watson. The Pac-10 and others have discovered him and undoubtedly more will also...

C.J. Watson, 6-1 SR PG, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, is making a national name for himself so far during the July recruiting period.

Mississippi St., Oregon, San Diego, Wake Forest, UNLV, Stanford, Minnesota and UTEP have noticed and are showing interest. He said that Oregon, UNLV, Minnesota and UTEP have offered. The schools he'd like to hear from are Tennessee (he has family there), Arizona, UCLA and USC.

Watson said he has some specific ideas about what he wants from the college experience. "Education means a lot," Watson said. "That's probably first on my list. Then, I think I want to go out of state. It would be a good time to grow up. I also want a place where I'm really comfortable and feel I fit in, on the basketball team and at the school."

The shifty, skilled point guard from Las Vegas, who averaged 16 points and 5.5 assists a game last season, said he might not commit during the November signing period. "I could do it in November," he said. "But I might wait. Maybe until December or something. I want to see if anyone else is going to recruit me. See all my options."

According to Watson, he has a 3.3 GPA and is scheduled to take the SAT for the first time in September.
